Is this a good fishing kit for beach casting, what bait will I need?
I plan on casting from the beach on the devon coast, but im a complete newb. How far will this cast? what type of fish am I likely to catch and also what sort of bait will I need? Ideally id like to use muscles as they are free on the beach and possibly also mackarel which are a nice cheap fish. Any ideas for a beginner are welcomed.
Rod length 3.05m/10ft.
3 sections.
Fibreglass composition.
Casting weight of 3 to 5oz.
Fixed spool front drag size 50 reel.
18lb monofilament line.
4oz grip lead, 2 boom rig, sea float, hook, beads, swivel and weight.
Rod supplied in cotton cloth rod bag.
im on sussex coast and about now mainly flatfish are about ie dabs flounder etc with schoolie bass ( i caught 1 on friday) and am also catching loads of rockling . casting distance depends a lot on technique but distance isnt everything as there are fish close into shore .wouldnt worry to much about the float but dont forget a shock leader this needs to be 10 times the weight of the weight about 50lbs hope this helps and good luck
